Formatting internal notes

Internal notes are written in Markdown: a few plain-text marks that turn into headings, bold text and lists once the note is saved. None of it is required: ordinary sentences work just as well.

In this section

A booking's internal notes are one document the whole team edits, not a thread of separate comments, so they are worth a little structure: a heading for access, a bulleted list for what is left in the room, the door code set apart from the sentence around it. Markdown is how you add that without a toolbar — you type the marks, and they disappear into the formatting when you save.

ExampleThe marks Quorin reads

Each line shows what to type, then what the saved note makes of it.

  • **Door code** — two asterisks on each side makes the words bold. One asterisk on each side, *door code*, makes them italic instead.
  • ## Access — a line starting with ## becomes a heading. Use it to split a long note into sections a colleague can scan.
  • - Amp left in room B — a line starting with a dash becomes a bulleted list, one line per bullet. Start the lines with 1. 2. 3. instead and you get a numbered list.
  • [Their invoice](https://example.com/inv/42) — square brackets then the address in round brackets turns words into a link. A bare address on its own becomes a link too.
  • `4821#` — backticks around a value show it as code, which is what keeps a door code readable when it ends in punctuation.

Blank lines are what separate paragraphs. Pressing Enter once continues the same paragraph; press it twice to start a new one, and leave a blank line before a list or a heading so it starts cleanly.

HTML is not an escape hatch: the tags are stripped and only the words between them survive, so typing <b>important</b> saves the word important with no emphasis at all. Use the marks above instead. Internal notes are never visible to the renter, whatever they contain.
