Taxes and what your renter sees

Your rates are the price before tax. Each tax you add is calculated on that price and shown as its own line, both when the renter books and on the document they keep.

In this section

A tax is a name, a type and a rate. The type is what makes the paperwork work: marking a line as GST or QST lets your registration number for that tax print beside it, which is what turns a receipt into something your renter’s bookkeeper can actually use. Anything else is “Other” — it prints the name you gave it and claims nothing.

Every rate is applied to the booking’s pre-tax subtotal on its own; they are never stacked on top of one another. That is why Quebec’s two taxes have to be two lines, and why Quorin refuses a single line called “GST/QST”: one stored 14.975% cannot be split back into the two rates a receipt is required to state.

ExampleA $100 booking in Quebec

You have a GST line at 5% and a QST line at 9.975%. A renter books time that comes to $100.

  • Before confirming, they see: subtotal $100.00, GST $5.00, QST $9.98, total $114.98.
  • The same lines appear on the receipt afterwards, each beside the registration number for that tax.
  • A cancellation or late-change fee is typed before tax too, and is taxed at these same rates — a $25 late fee bills $28.74.
  • Change your rates next year and only new bookings use them: a booking already taken keeps the taxes it was quoted at.

The currency sits beside the taxes because it is the same decision: it is the currency your rates are written in and the one every renter is charged in. Changing it does not convert anything — it relabels your prices.
